Laura Cabral et al has published a new hot piece called: Multivariate and Regional Age-Related Change in Basal Ganglia Iron in Neonates which was recently accepted into Cerebral Cortex! Turns out my obsession with metal wasn’t just a phase, its in our brains from birth!  Laura used brain tissue iron in the basal ganglia to assess age related neurodevelopment. Her work offers substantiation that subregions undergo distinct alterations due to postnatal experiences, and suggests that early preterm birth could potentially interfere with developmental trajectories.
